So anyway, I started mixing the record. and I mean REALLY mixing the record. The chasing of the sounds has begun, and MORE then a little bit of editing and engineering magic has made it’s way onto and into the tracks. We are putting all the pieces together and TRYING to get the ep to sound the way I want it.

My producer/engineer is a lovely gentleman named Joe Rodriguez. He plays for a little band called “A Flock of Seagulls”. The “guy with the hair”/ AFOS frontman is a delightful fellow named Mike Score. and one of the MANY cool things about this project (more details will come later , I assure you) is that I am using his personal microphone to re-track all of my vocals. Yep, I got my grubby little mitts (with permission) on the official custom modded “seagulls” Mic. 🙂 I roll with the flock now, bitches. haha

Anyway, Joe has had his hands full trying to correct and repair some pretty shoddy editing work from the last studio I was at, and let me tell you, the guy is a miracle worker. Somehow he takes the words that are coming out of my mouth and turns them into the sounds that are going into your ears.

as for the direction of this vessel, we’re currently steering this ship into warmer waters. Warmer, LOWER FI waters.

We’re ALSO re-tracking all my vocals. My first foray into vocal tracking produced mixed results, so this time, with a little guidance, we are gonna see if we can get some takes that are a little more reflective of what I’m capable of as an “artist”. (yep, lets use that term loosely there people.)

All this stuff is new to me, this is my first recording, so I’m learning on the fly. I have to say, with the stellar lineup I have, and the absolute BEAST of an engineer Joe is, album is turning out better then I ever thought it would. Hell, I might even be a little EXCITED to put this out.

We’ll, I suppose that’s an update, plus, who even reads this crap (or knows it exists)

If you made it this far, you are a class act, and I appreciate you more then you know.

A Flock of Mixing

So November it is! and the mixing is ON!!!!!

I went ahead and switched studios.

I’m gonna be mixing the record w/ my good friend Joe Rodriguez of the band “A Flock of Seagulls” out in Orlando (yes, THAT A Flock of Seagulls) AND MAAAAN, am I super excited to get started!!

We are also going to be Re-tracking ALL of my vocals, tracking back up vocals, and hunting for some cool sounds/ effects.

This record has been WAAAAAY more involved then I ever thought it would. I assumed when I started this was a one or two month process. WRONG!!!!!!!

It’s the end of the year and we are STILL going strong on it.

If any of you have ever recorded a record before you know EXACTLY how time consuming and expensive this kind of thing is. Well, as this is my first one, I did NOT! 🙂

It’s been a FANTASTIC process so far, and I can’t wait to show people the final result (Hell, I can;t wait to hear the finished result)

I guess that’s it for now. I’ll keep you guys in the loop and post some pictures when we start this mixing off w/ a bang!

Someplace’s own,

HH

Mixing the record

Well, as long as everything goes to plan, I’ll start mixing the record this month (Oct). the plan is to re-track my vocals and then mix out in Orlando with everybodys favorite Seagull, Mr. Joe Rodriguez.

We’s gonna mix the SHYAT outta this until we have it right, but I’ve been taking notes and collecting ideas, so it should be alright. I’m looking forward to it.

Making this album has been A LOT more work then I knew or anticipated. I think when it started off I had a much smaller scale idea for what I was gonna be doing, and then got swept up in the thing. It’s turned out REALLY well though, and I can’t wait to share details and stories with everyone of the craziness that was the recording of “The Tin Foil Stars” ep. I’ve met SO many great people through this project and have had the opportunity to work with some of my all time heroes.

Man, it’s gonna be really cool when this is all done,

Into the mind of the tiniest one man wrecking crew you ever saw

Being a songwriter requires a lot of faith. You have to believe in yourself first and foremost. You have to believe that when lighting strikes in the inspiration department you’ll be able to pull the trigger and turn it into something.

All the pressure rests on you. There is no band to blame. No one else to get ideas from. But I think right now that’s what I’m needing.

Ive been SUPER frustrated in the inspiration department. I know, I know. If I was good, I could just write about anything and everything. For some reasons songs about deep fat fryers and watching for transfer news in European football on the internet doesn’t seem like the richest subject matter. And I can only write about how I’m stuck and hate where I’m at so many times.

I believe in myself as far as my ability to put something together. But finding the thing is proving challenging.

I officially hate the songs on my EP. Not cause they are bad (Well, thats really up to each persons opinion) but because Ive heard them 300 million times. And also because Im tired of playing them over and over again. You figured I’d be able to play them flawlessly but I still suck shit at these songs. I never was much of a player.

I’m hoping to have everything done this September. It will require one more influx of cash to finish this up. but then I can get it done and get it out in the open.

And figure out what the hell I’m going to do from there.

Well, that’s life.

Deuces, HH

What in the world?

So the craziest thing happened to me. I wanted something. So I took it. The things I’ve been able to accomplish for this EP are wild. Just wild. If you would have told me the people I would have playing on this record a year ago, I would NEVER have believed it. EVER.

I mean, it’s like I reached up and just plucked a star out of the sky. I mean. I wanted to be at a level. and I am there. I put my foot right up on the stage. and this is only the beginning. This is the bery first thing I have ever done.

and I received HUGE compliments from people so far beyond me. Or are they.

This has been a fucking WILD ride. I’m really excited about putting this EP out. Just getting it going. and getting out there. It’s all one step at a time.

Were getting closer, closer to the end…

I’m heading to Re Room Recorders tonight, out in Tampa. There is a sweet tropical storm by the name of
Debbie that is promising to make my ride there quite the adventure.

We’ll be laying down the last of the instruments tonight and then we will start MIXING.

Were in the tail end of the recording of this EP, and I’m SUPER excited about it.

I guess I’ll let you know how it goes….
