Gram Parsons, The Roots of Country Rock, and my new house

Me and Jon Corneal

Me and Jon Corneal

As some of you may know, I am a fan of Gram Parsons music, and even had the chance to work with his pedal steel player from “The Fallen Angels” band on my record, Neil Flanz. (My record should be out first half of this year, barring any set backs, just FYI)

So now, where were we?

ahhh yes. I was going to tell you about the lecture I attended, given by Edward R. Murrow award and 3 time Emmy winning reporter and author, Bob Kealing. About his new book, “CALLING ME HOME: Gram Parsons and the roots of country rock”.

What an amazing experience. As luck would have it, Gram was born and raised in Winter Haven, FL, (the next town over from my current base of operations). I got to learn about central Florida’s musical roots,(and the INCREDIBLE amount of GREAT bands from the area) as well as see unreleased pictures of Gram Parsons, Hear unreleased young Parsons recording, AND meet many of Gram’s close personal friends INCLUDING the first drummer of country rock, Mr. Jon Corneal.

This is the man who played drums on the groundbreaking record “SAFE AT HOME” by The International Submarine Band, as well as being an original member of The FLYING BURRITO BROTHERS. Don’t believe me?

The Nudie Suit

CHECK OUT THAT NUDIE JACKET!

Replete with Seminole indian stripes, Palm trees, Alligators, and a Riverboat.

This is THE drummer from “The Gilded Palace of Sin”.

He also did session work for Chet Atkins, was Loretta Lynn’s drummer, Played and recorded with Warren Zevon and the Glaser Brothers (who wrote the song “Streets Of Baltimore” and were Outlaw country running pals of Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson)

The book is fantastic as well, just in case you were wondering. It certainly worth picking up, or at least checking out. (it’s got all sorts of never before shared info and pictures), and as someone who has read multiple books on the life of Gram Parsons, I can tell you this is a great and interesting read.

OH. and I moved into a new house 🙂 pretty pumped about that, too!

It’s a cool, 2 story historic home built in 1918. Plenty O’ Character AND space! 🙂

Thanks for reading.

SITE IN PROGRESS!

Just so you know, if you happen to cruise by here, this site -O- mine is “In Progress”. AND will be getting a face lift before the record comes out.

Which WILL be out this summer! (or I will bludgeon someone with a bag of rice…..)

Happy Trails!

I need more allowance!!! (yo da lay ee whoo) Why? BECAUSE I DO.

Working hard, or hardly working.

the age old question posed by every manager at every job I’ve ever had. Usually followed by something just as clever like, “If you’ve got time to lean, you’ve got time to clean”.

Yep. So there’s that.

Now on to the fun stuff. I’m gonna be getting a crash course in guitarification (that’s the ancient Chinese art of becoming one with an electric guitar) so that I can get up to speed (and possibly over speed) with this band I’m trying to hook up with with my buddy Joe Rodriguez, legendary Oracle, see-er, and mystic and also lead guitar player for 80’s icons “A Flock of Seagulls”.

Did you know I don’t play electric guitar very well? Of course not. But I don’t. Because I’ve spent all of my time playing the acoustic guitar. and they are INDEED different beasts.

Oh, and on a non music/ slightly music related not, i’ll be making a pation out behind my house. I CANNOT wait for that.

and ALL the bands I like (and some I’m good friends with) are ALL coming to town in the next couple months, so I keep missing work. Which would be 100% awesome except i never work anyway and It means I have no money to go see any of the bands I like/ am friends with. AH, the duality of life.

and now for the only part anyone should slightly care about, The record should be coming out early 2014….I think….

That is the tentative date we’ve put on it, barring any setbacks, now that I sort of know what the hell is going on.

I guess that’s an update for now

Oh, and one time someone did something cool in a place that I lived THAT ISN’T COOL

lakelandmurraypic

an update?

I suppose I should keep this bad boy updated. So what’s the deal-y-o?

Well, I’ve wasted all my time playing fantasy football. HAHA

Just kidding. I’ve only wasted SOME of my time doing that. I’ve actually been putting a lot of time and effort into learning how to play guitar. I broke out the Acoustic today to make sure I could still work it. and that I still remembered my songs.

I remembered them.  Well, a few of them.

I’ve been working to get everything set up and lined up and filled up and mixed up and built up and ganked up. OH, and I’ve been working hard on joining a band!

It’s been a goal of mine for the last 6 years. I’m finally trying to make this happen. for real this time.

So there has been a TON of guitar learning going on.

OH, AND the record labels! SHHHHHHHH

that’s enough for now.

If you read this, then you must care.

and if you care, then I love you more then you know. and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It’s coming. I promise

Mixes=Final

So, where were we? Oh yes. I went out and finalized the track mixes for the E.P.

A sweet adventure of a day, where I got 2 hours of sleep, had 4 hours of drive time and sat through many hours of intent listening to balances and pans…PHEW!

Also, there was indian food.

So yeah, Steadily working away at this record of mine.

ALSO, steadily working away at learning how to play the guitar! I’ve been getting lessons, and practicing about 2 hours a night. I WILL LEARN HOW TO WORK THIS THING YET!!!!

Lots of good stuff in the works, and HOPEFULLY :p getting this record done and out at some point

Someplaces own,

HH

My night has been made

So tonight, my track was shown to a Grammy winning pop culture icon.

and he REALLY dug it 🙂

I’d like to dedicate that to all the assholes who told me I sucked and that they were WAY better then me.

SUCK IT CLOWNS!!!!

Life goes on

So, I am just finishing up a move.

and this move will allow me to pursue music full time. and I begin guitar lessons in a couple of days. GETTING them, not teaching them.

I’ve got all sorts of dreams on the burners at this moment in time. So let’s see if we can summon up some lightning. Image

I need to get it in gear, cause we gotta push this record HARD. Or at least as hard as I can.

This is the first step. The first step in the very beginning of the thing. Of all that can and will be. and even though it’s terrifying, it the beginning of a dream

Mid level band here I come!

Someplace’s own,

HH

Check out this AWESOME bio my buddy Zack wrote up for me! (hillaritive!)

When Horace Holloway isn’t humanely freezing eco hazardous amphibians, strolling for blackberries in the woods or climbing trees and meditating, you may find him stirring up his creative juices into music. When the sun is down, and alone with his thoughts, after completion of masturbation to internet redheads, this insomniac nature boy puts his pen to the pad. A true fan of literature and poetry, Horace Holloway’s story telling is what first captures your attention with songs that grasp every string of human emotion, a lyrical artist who paints pictures in the minds of listeners.

Although listening to his poetry through spoken word poems in a shop where herbal tea is in high demand would satisfy most, Horace Holloway’s music puts him in another category with tremendous talent firing from all cylinders, we listen and wonder why this backwoods ex-wigger is still running hot food for impatient assholes in Lakeland. “
